Description

Flaky homemade toaster strudels filled with sweet apple cinnamon filling and topped with a simple icing glaze, perfect for a cozy breakfast or treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 apple, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine chopped apple, brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Cook for 5–7 minutes until the apples are soft and mixture is thickened. Let cool.
  3. Roll out puff pastry and cut into 6 equal rectangles.
  4. Spoon apple filling onto three of the rectangles, leaving a small border.
  5. Top with the remaining pastry rectangles and crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
  6. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 18–20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  8. While baking, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze.
  9. Let the strudels cool slightly, then drizzle with glaze before serving.

Notes

  • Use Granny Smith apples for a tart flavor or Honeycrisp for sweetness.
  • Let strudels cool before glazing to avoid melting the icing too much.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
