Description

These Almond Bars are soft, buttery, and full of rich almond flavor, with a delicate crunch from sliced almonds on top. They’re easy to make and perfect for serving with coffee, tea, or as part of a dessert spread for special occasions.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds (for topping)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Make the Batter:

    • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the almond extract.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until fully combined.
  3. Assemble and Bake:

    • Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
    • Sprinkle sliced almonds evenly over the top.
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  4. Cool and Serve:

    • Let the bars cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares or rectangles.
    • Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.

Notes

  • Add a simple glaze by mixing 1 cup powdered sugar with 1-2 tablespoons of milk and ½ teaspoon almond extract, then drizzle over cooled bars.
  • For a richer flavor, toast the sliced almonds before adding them to the top.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
