Description

Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan is a crispy, juicy, and cheesy classic made lighter and quicker with the help of the air fryer. The chicken gets perfectly golden without deep frying and is topped with marinara and melty mozzarella. It’s a weeknight-friendly meal that feels like a comfort food splurge!


Ingredients

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, sliced in half lengthwise (to make 4 cutlets)

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 large eggs, beaten

  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs or panko

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 1 cup marinara sauce

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • Cooking spray or olive oil spray

  • Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish (optional)


Instructions

  1. Prep the chicken:
    Pound chicken cutlets to an even thickness if needed. Season both sides with salt and pepper.

  2. Bread the chicken:
    Set up three bowls:

    • One with flour

    • One with beaten eggs

    • One with breadcrumbs, Parmesan, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning
      Dredge each chicken piece in flour, then dip in egg, and coat in the breadcrumb mixture. Press lightly to help the coating stick.

  3. Air fry:
    Preheat air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3–5 minutes.
    Lightly spray the basket and chicken with oil.
    Place chicken in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and internal temp reaches 165°F.

  4. Add sauce and cheese:
    Spoon marinara over each piece and top with mozzarella. Return to the air fryer for 2–3 more minutes, until cheese is melted.

  5. Serve:
    Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired. Serve over pasta, with a salad, or in a sandwich.


Notes

  • Panko breadcrumbs make it extra crispy.

  • Use fresh mozzarella for a richer flavor.

  • To make it gluten-free, use gluten-free breadcrumbs and flour.
