This 7 Layer Taco Dip is a crowd-pleasing appetizer that’s loaded with layers of flavorful ingredients like refried beans, sour cream, guacamole, and cheese. Perfect for parties, game day, or any gathering, it’s easy to assemble and always a hit when served with tortilla chips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (16 oz) refried beans
  • 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning mix
  • 1 cup (240 g) sour cream
  • 1 cup (240 g) guacamole
  • 1 cup (240 g) salsa (chunky preferred)
  • 1 cup (120 g) shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup (30 g) sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup (30 g) chopped green onions
  • Tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions

1. Prepare the refried beans

  1. In a bowl, mix the refried beans with half of the taco seasoning. Spread the seasoned beans evenly in the bottom of a 9×13-inch dish or a shallow serving platter.

2. Layer the sour cream

  1. Mix the remaining taco seasoning with the sour cream. Spread this mixture evenly over the refried beans.

3. Add the guacamole

  1. Spread the guacamole in an even layer on top of the sour cream mixture.

4. Add the salsa

  1. Carefully spoon the salsa over the guacamole, spreading it evenly.

5. Add the cheese

  1. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the salsa layer.

6. Top with garnishes

  1. Sprinkle the diced tomatoes, sliced black olives, and chopped green onions over the cheese.

7. Chill and serve

  1. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  2. Serve cold with tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

  • Customizable: Add layers of diced jalapeños, corn, or cooked ground beef for extra flavor.
  • Make-Ahead: This dip can be prepared up to 6 hours in advance. Cover tightly and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Guacamole Tip: To prevent browning, drizzle a thin layer of lime juice over the guacamole before adding the next layer.
